Hot Bites and Calm Seas: June Fishing is On Fire in Destin
Destin Harbor - Okaloosa, FL
Fishing in Destin is heating up as we roll into summer, and the Gulf is offering plenty of action for anglers of all skill levels. Nearshore waters are producing solid numbers of Vermilion Snapper, Gray Triggerfish, and Red Snapper now that the season is open. Snapper have been biting best in the early mornings, especially around natural bottom and reef structures in 60–120 feet of water.
King Mackerel and Spanish Mackerel are active along the beaches and just offshore, especially during outgoing tides. Trolling with spoons and live bait rigs has been the most productive. Expect some Bonita mixed in as well, keeping rods bending during short runs.
Inshore fishing has been steady, with Redfish and Black Drum being caught around the jetties and back bay docks. Live shrimp and cut bait have been working well. Flounder are also starting to show up more consistently along sandy drop-offs and grass edges, especially on the rising tide.
Offshore boats heading farther out are seeing good action with Mahi-Mahi, Wahoo, and some Blackfin Tuna, especially around floating debris and weed lines.
The weather this week has been mostly favorable, with light chop and clear mornings giving way to breezy afternoons. Be sure to head out early to make the most of the bite and beat the summer heat.
Whether you’re staying nearshore or heading deeper into the Gulf, now’s a great time to fish in Destin!
